What to do in April at 12 King Street

30 March 2022

With 12 King Street being in the heart of Leeds city centre, it will be easy for occupiers to get involved with events that are happening in and around the city and the region. Whether that is networking with business professionals or getting together with colleagues outside of work or enjoying some time with friends and family, there is always something to do in this vibrant city.  Take a look at some of the exciting events that are happening in Leeds this April, with some dates to put in the diary.

Let’s get digital

Leeds has a thriving digital sector, with 90,000 businesses in the Leeds City Region alone and a gross added value (GVA) of £1.3 billion. It’s why the city is looking forward to hosting the Leeds Digital Festival  on April 25-27, ahead of the main two-week event in September. The three-day event’s theme is sustainability. A must-attend event for any business in digital.

Step up to management

12 King Street is in the heart of the Leeds Business Improvement District (BID), which works to make the city a better place in which to work, live and visit. Levy-paying members can access a workshop titled “Why should anyone be led by you?”   Taking place on Wednesday, April 27, at City Exchange, it is a half-day workshop aimed at junior or middle managers who want managerial training or young leaders who want to step up to a managerial role. If your organisation is a member of the BID and you want to find out more, head here.

Howzat for cricket

Leeds is famous for Headingley – the home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and April marks the start of the domestic cricket season. While Yorkshire plays its first game away against Gloucestershire, the team play at home on Wednesday, April 28, against Kent. Find out which games – including T20, The Hundred and international games – are being played at Yorkshire’s home of cricket here.

What’s on stage

Renowned for its thriving arts and culture scene, Leeds has a rich theatrical heritage. In April, Leeds Grand Theatre welcomes the National Theatre’s Olivier and Tony Award-winning production of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time for a week’s run, from April 12-16. For a fun family theatrical event, Leeds Playhouse is playing host to The Gruffalo. This hugely popular show will be staged on April 29 and 30 and it promises plenty of songs and laughter for young ones and grown-ups.

Food and drink

Leeds has an excellent food and drink scene and on Saturday, April 30 there are two food events in the city that are bound to have something for everyone. The Leeds Kirkgate Vegan Festival starts at the famous Kirkgate Market at 10.30 and will feature artisan makers, jewellers, and artists, plus a huge range of exquisite vegan foods at the Market Kitchen. At the Royal Armouries, starting at noon, is the Sausage and Cider Festival, which will sell a massive range of sausages (including gluten-free and vegan), plus there will be bars celebrating ciders, craft beers, prosecco and wines. Expect live music from local acts, too.
